The Fairmont Peace Hotel stands as a timeless icon on Shanghai’s storied Bund, blending rich heritage with refined luxury. Revered as Shanghai’s answer to New York’s Plaza, this 4.6-star landmark envelops guests in an atmosphere that feels more like a living museum than a conventional hotel stay. Its Art Deco grandeur, steeped in history and glamour, creates an unforgettable backdrop for both leisure and celebratory moments.

Visitors consistently praise the exceptional service that defines the Fairmont Peace Hotel experience. From the warm attentiveness of the concierge Lily to the flawless professionalism of Eric and his breakfast team, every interaction elevates the stay. The Fairmont Gold Lounge emerges as a tranquil haven, where hospitality is delivered with genuine care and thoughtful detail. Staff like Kevin, providing impeccable service in the Old Jazz Band lounge, add a personal touch that transcends expectations.

The rooms balance modern comfort with classic elegance, offering spaciousness and all the amenities expected from a five-star retreat. This hotel is absolutely iconic. If Shanghai has an equivalent to The Plaza, this is it. The location on the Bund is unbeatable, steeped in history, glamour, and presence. Staying here feels like inhabiting a living landmark rather than just booking a luxury hotel. Service was exceptional across the board, with special recognition for the concierge, Lily. She was attentive, proactive, and genuinely thoughtful throughout our stay. This was easily the best concierge experience I have ever had, including stays at Four Seasons and Aman properties worldwide. We split our stay between two Heritage Nine Nations suites. The first was the Indian Suite, which was stunning. Rich décor, intricate detailing, and spectacular direct Bund views made it feel incredibly special. These suites are beautifully themed and meticulously maintained. It is important to understand that this is a historic hotel. You are not coming here for ultra-modern design or floor-to-ceiling glass. You are staying inside a functioning piece of Shanghai history, and that gravitas is the luxury. We also stayed in the Italian Suite, which was spacious and very comfortable. Between the two, I slightly preferred the Italian Suite’s living room layout because it had a proper couch, whereas the Indian Suite featured elegant armchairs better suited to sitting than lounging. The location is phenomenal. From the front door you can walk the Bund, reach Nanjing Road shopping, explore historic buildings, river promenades, restaurants, and cafés with ease. The pool is excellent and beautifully maintained for a historic property. The gym is solid, and the men’s sauna and steam room facilities are not to be missed. The legendary Jazz Bar is worth visiting, but expectations should be set. This is not high-art jazz. It is quirky, nostalgic, and charming, with a band clearly having a great time. It fits the spirit of the hotel perfectly. Breakfast was the one weak point and felt underwhelming for a hotel of this caliber. However, the Club Lounge afternoon tea on the ninth floor was excellent, with savory offerings substantial enough to replace dinner. A highlight of our stay was a private historical tour led by the hotel’s in-house historian, including access to the Presidential Suite and hidden features like the original Otis elevator. It was truly memorable. One of my top five hotels in the world, not for flashy luxury, but for how special, storied, and meaningful the experience is.

I would like to compliment Eric and all of his staff here at the breakfast restaurant have been super professional, friendly, detailed oriented and efficient in what they do! They were super lovely and have top notch customer service! I am really impressed by the service standards here at Fairmount Peace Hotel here in Shanghai! My first time here at Shanghai have been super memorable because of the people here that helped it made it home away from home. Thank you so much Eric and all of his team here at the restaurant! Please let each and everyone know that we appreciate their hard work to make each guest feel so welcome here! Thank you so much!!

We didn’t stay at the hotel but we booked a table to see the Old Jazz Band in the hotel lounge. It was a fabulous experience to listen to the band and the beautiful singer who sang old English and Chinese songs. The cocktails were excellent and our waiter Kevin provided the best service we could have asked for. He spoke English well and went above and beyond expectations. It is a must do activity while in Shanghai.

An absolutely outstanding stay at Fairmont Peace Hotel Shanghai. Check-in was seamless, and communication before and during the stay was prompt and clear. Fairmont Gold is truly special—the Gold Lounge felt like a little paradise, with some of the best hotel staff I’ve ever encountered. Warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Food throughout the stay was delicious, and breakfast at the Jasmine Lounge was a highlight, especially the lovely longevity noodle surprise. Ground staff were professional yet full of personality, housekeeping was generous and extremely diligent, and the concierge team was simply the most helpful I’ve experienced anywhere. A big thank you to Marjory, Kevin, Lance, Jun, Max, and the wonderful Jasmine Lounge breakfast team for making this a lifetime memory. Highly recommended, especially with Fairmont Gold access.

Perfect staycation. I was brought up in Shanghai and the Fairmont Peace Hotel has always been an icon of elegance and heritage to me. We celebrated my parents' golden wedding anniversary this week at the Peace Hotel and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The service was excellent, with special thanks to the lounge team for their warmth and attentive care. Appreciation to the staff for creating such wonderful memories for us. Will definitely be back!

Stayed a night at this most well-known 5-star Shanghai hotel. Room (10/10) - Very large, modern, clean room with all amenities provided. Not much of a view unless paying higher prices. Service (10/10) - Staffs were friendly, courteous and proactively try to assist guests whenever possible. Best I've seen in China so far. Breakfast (10/10) - Buffet breakfast offering the most diverse range of food and drink options. Would require at least 2 mornings to fully sample all. Location (10/10) - Located next to the Shanghai bund and main tourist area. Couldn't demand more. Price (7/10) - Premium price but definitely worth the experience. By far, the best hotel I've stayed in China. Will definitely be back again for special occasions .

A Masterclass in Old-World Glamour! Staying at the Peace Hotel felt less like a hotel visit and more like starring in a vintage movie. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—the doormen were opening doors before we even reached them, and our luggage was whisked away the second we stepped inside the stunning Art Deco lobby. Because it was our fifth combined visit to Shanghai, the team kindly surprised us with a room upgrade. When there was a slight delay in getting our keys ready, the staff followed up by delivering a plate of truly exquisite chocolates directly to our room—a lovely touch. Both the room and the bathroom were a dream for any fan of vintage Art Deco design. After a long journey, the espresso coffee, tea, and replenishing fruit bowl were so welcome, especially as they provided proper cutlery to enjoy them with. The staff strikes the perfect balance of being incredibly attentive without ever being intrusive. The nightly turndown service was a thoughtful touch that added to the sense of luxury. We also loved the quiet, serene atmosphere of the pool (though having two lifeguards for just me felt a bit like having a personal security detail!) and the spa reception area with gift shop was a pleasurable browse. A highlight was definitely cocktails at the Jazz Bar; the legendary band—with a combined age of 480 years—creates an atmosphere of pure nostalgia. We missed the museum tour this time, but we will certainly be back to visit the rooftop bar, which easily has the best views in the city as the Bund lights up at night!

We stayed here for 6 nights in late december and loved it. There is litteral not 1 bad thing i could say about the hotel; breakfast could have been better; but honestly the staff was kind and accommodating; house keeping was impeccable; location was 10/10. There are wonderful english speaking staffs who are just very helpful. The staff was kind and nice to our toddlers. There was a couple who really wanted to stay at the hotel but it was fully booked for the whole week and the staff turned them down but very nicely. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting shanghai
